 ESPRIT RAZIN CULTURAL NOMAD
CULTURAL ACTIVISM PRESENTATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL PROJECT

HEALING HISTORICAL TRAUMA    |  BUILDING INNER CULTURE    |  HEALING SPACE FOR HAITIAN NOMAD AND OUR ALLIES

Esprit Razin (ER) presentations and educational projects are for those interested in the vast and complex culture of Haitian people from a diaspora or what I call "cultural nomad" perspective. We support survivors of ancestral slavery, colonization, and neo-colonialism. Study of genetics has made it clear that our collective past effects our present experiences. Taught from my own experiences, we explore the effects these things had on and are having on us today. We discuss some of our challenges including chronic negativity, fear of Vodou and Haitian indigenous spirituality, gossip, chaos, and subconscious self hatred. These are for Haitian descendants and allies who seek to better understand the legacy they inherited, how it effects their outlook today, and how they can create a better world for future generations.

I created these programs because I noticed that many who are interested in Haitian spirituality and culture often find its academic studies too detached. Additionally, the information that is readily available may not be solution oriented and can sometimes be "uninformed."  This is where I come in. My work is intentionally non-academic yet integrated enough to help help bridge gaps in information.

At one point, Haitians had the same goal, freedom from slavery. We fought for it and obtained. Today, Haitians and their descendants have another freedom we are fighting for - psychic, emotional, and mental freedom. As a Creole (mixed origins) people spread out as cultural nomads in a diaspora, our perspectives on Haitian are plentiful.  From the purist to the obscene and everything else in between. Too often only certain voices are able or are chosen to speak. These gatherings allow for your voice to be heard. These gatherings help reconnect us to our unique spiritual and ancestral inheritance.

Based on over 20 years of wellness and healing training experiences, I offer gatherings that can bring about positive new perspectives, build connections and heal wounded hearts.

I offer three presentations around personal, family and community wellness.

Decolonizing of My Vodou - an engaging 1 hour chanting, storytelling, dancing, and inspiring educational presentation around my personal spiritual journey. It includes brief history of Haiti and audience engagement. This presentation is a powerful tool for helping to free the colonized mind from ancestral and colonial indoctrinations. Using my personal journey, I share on to overcome alien and damaging self-hatred and devaluing concepts inherited from religious persecution of peoples of African descent. 30 minutes to 1 hour discussion after the presentation.

The Intersection of Vodou and Modern Medicine - a 1 hour educational and interactive presentation that dispels myths and reveals ways modern and ancient medicine can work together. I also present powerful information on the interconnectedness of wellness (diet, fitness, herbal medicine) and the psychic and physical dangers of religious intolerance, micro-aggressions and cultural assassination of healing traditions.

Sevi Tet Monthly Group Gathering - a gathering of students for cultural and spiritual development. In this experiential educational course, spiritual students learn about Haitian culture from a wholistic (whole) perspective. This course is not available to the general public and is opened to new students on an annual basis. We explore the differences and similarities of African, Western, and Eastern cultural philosophy and study teleological medicine which is only one aspect of culture. In the future, we seek to travel both in the US and abroad. *Due to our concern with economic exploitation of indigenous knowledge and centuries of demonization of cultures worldwide, this course is only available to the student with a genuine interest in personal development through Haitian spiritual knowledge and culture. Fee is nominal. It covers light refreshments and rental space.
